Christopher Doyle discusses the quandary ex-gays present to the gay rights movement

March 05, 2013 By: Tom Coy Category: Ex-gay News, Gay Politics, Homosexuality Causation, Sexual Orientation Change Efforts

February 27, 2013

Excerpts from Christopher Doyle’s opinion piece “The Ex-Gay Problem: You Can Never Leave?” on the Christian Post website: “‘You Can Check-Out Anytime You Like, But You Can Never Leave.’ So says the Eagles’ song Hotel California. Ironically, this memorable phrase in that 1976 classic hit has lasting implications for all those wishing to leave the gay life. I am careful to say ‘life’ and not ‘lifestyle’ so not to offend any gay and lesbian reading this who may be quick to cast me as a homophobe or hate-monger.”

“The truth is no one simply chooses to have same-sex attractions (SSA). These feelings are the result of many factors, mostly environmental and familial, mixed-in with one genetic factor, a sensitive temperament. I make this claim not with a preponderance of scientific evidence, but with the clinical experience of my own practice as a psychotherapist over the last three years, plus an additional twenty years of observations from my colleagues at the International Healing Foundation.” (more…)

Exodus International leaders now encouraging Christians to serve in gay-straight alliances

March 05, 2013 By: Tom Coy Category: Ex-gay News, Religious Perspective

February 11, 2013

[Editor’s note: Gay-straight alliances in schools are a political strategy of GLSEN, the gay political movement’s most powerful organization influencing schoolchildren. The message of GLSEN mirrors the gay political movement that gay is good and equal to heterosexuality. GLSEN has been involved with efforts to teach schoolchildren gay sexual techniques and associates biblical principles on homosexuality with intolerance. Ex-gayTruth.com does not agree with the advice that follows from Alan Chambers.]

The following text was transcribed from the “Question of the Week: How do I respond to a gay-straight alliance in our local school?” video featuring Alan Chambers: “Our question this week comes from a man who called in asking how he should respond to the creation of a gay-straight alliance being created in a public system in his community. Alan Chambers gives the reason why Exodus International has no policy on gay marriage

February 18, 2013

The following text was transcribed from Exodus International’s “Question of the Week – Gay Marriage?” video featuring Alan Chambers: “Each week we get a number of important questions that come into our office. This week the important question we decided to answer is – Does Exodus International have a policy on gay marriage? And the answer is no, we don’t. If you remember a number of years ago we were involved in public policy. About five years ago we decided that that was a major distraction for us, frankly, at Exodus International for a number of reasons.” (more…)

Ministry leader gives advice for when a loved one says they’re gay

March 04, 2013 By: Tom Coy Category: Ex-gay News, Relationship Advice

February 10, 2013

Excerpt from ex-gay Charlene E. Hios’ article “How Do I Respond When A Loved One Says ‘I’m gay'” on the PFOX website. Charlene is Executive Director of Bridging The Gaps Ministries: “Many Christians now must ask, ‘How do I respond when a loved one says ‘I’m gay’?’ How you respond when they disclose that they believe they are gay or lesbian makes a world of difference in your relationship with them going forward. This is especially true if they are your child.”

“First, remember this is not about you. It is about that person. The desire for your loved one is that they be reconciled to God from this sin. You can, and must, extend God’s love while holding to a position that homosexuality is sin. (more…)

March 04, 2013 By: Tom Coy Category: Ex-gay News, Relationship Advice, Religious Perspective, testimony

February 9, 2013

Excerpts from Florence Hubbs’ testimony on the PFOX website: … “In Feb 1993, Karen & I were to celebrate our 9th year together. I know I had great plans for the day. She suddenly said ‘that perhaps our relationship was wrong in God’s eyes’. I told her ‘I could fight a man or a woman, but I was certainly not going to fight God!’ I had already tried that and was not going to go back to the empty life of the bars. She moved out in March. I was deeply crushed, and through my tears ask God if he really cared. Are you real? God started bringing people into my life to show me his Love. Also the joy of being a friend with other women without sexual attractions.” (more…)

February 9, 2013

The Scripture verse the young lady chose to head the Facebook page is Psalm 147:3. “He heals the broken in heart and binds up their wounds.” She states the Facebook site is a story of her life and how she was healed from sexual abuse and delivered from homosexuality by the power of Jesus Christ. Her mission is “to reach the world with the truth…no one is born gay, and Jesus Christ can heal them and set them free.”

Mike Goeke is thankful his loved ones cared enough to offend him

March 04, 2013 By: Tom Coy Category: Ex-gay News, Gay Politics, Religious Perspective, testimony

February 9, 2012

Following is a testimony called “Offended” by past Exodus International vice-president Mike Geoke featured on the PFOX website: “A recent article in the San Francisco Chronicle touted the merger of 1,400 ‘open and affirming’ churches (meaning churches that affirm homosexual identity and behavior) with the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force. The article stated that leaders in the gay rights movement consider their biggest challenge to be that of convincing Christians that homosexual behavior is not a sin. I saw a part of this movement when I spoke recently at a gathering of pastors and church leaders from a denomination that is heavily divided over the issue of homosexuality. One man spoke of his desire that everyone be welcome at his church, and that they be ‘inclusive’ and, especially, that no one leave their church ‘offended’ by what they hear. (more…)

Andrew Comisky refutes the accusation that ex-gay ministries drive at-risk youth to suicide

March 04, 2013 By: Tom Coy Category: Clinical Science, Ex-gay News, Gay Politics, Religious Perspective

January 28, 2013

Text from Andrew Comisky’s blog “Courage and Contending Part 5: What We Need” on the http://andrewcomiskey.com website: “A common charge against Desert Stream and other ministries that encourage same-sex strugglers to a life beyond the gay kingdom is that we are driving ‘at-risk’ youth to suicide. Implicit in that view is that some kids are ‘gay’ by nature; the only ‘cure’ they need is freedom from those (like us) who believe otherwise.”

“Any challenge to the ‘gay self’ is seen as dangerous. (more…)

Alan Chambers outlines Exodus International’s vision for 2013

March 04, 2013 By: Tom Coy Category: Ex-gay News, Religious Perspective

January 28, 2013

The following text was transcribed from the “Question of the Week: What does 2013 look like for Exodus?” video featuring Alan Chambers on the Exodus International blog: “This year we are so excited about the vision and the direction for Exodus International. 2012 was a year of pruning for us, which anytime there is pruning it is an opportunity for growth in the years to come. We believe 2013 is going to be that year for Exodus International. I believe we are simpler, we’re stronger, we’re more focused on the areas of ministry that we need to be focused on.” (more…)
