A member of the New South Wales parliament has called Dr. Miriam Grossman a hateful extremist for supporting therapy for those “who wish to struggle against their same sex attraction.” Following are excerpts from Dr. Grossman’s reply in an article entitled “A Serious Accusation” that can be found on the PFOX website. … “As explained in my blogs, Gay or Straight? When others decide for you Part One & Part Two, if a patient comes to me in distress about this issue, it’s ethical for me to inform him about all his options. He has the right to define himself, and to choose a path that’s right for him. That’s what psychotherapy is all about: a journey.”

“A person can accept his urges, or he can choose to struggle against them. I have personally met with dozens of people who benefited from this therapy, to say nothing of the testimonials on sites like Narth and PFOX. … There’s nothing hateful about my position about therapy for same sex attraction, or about any of my positions. I’m a doctor, and I want to keep people out of the offices of doctors and therapists. It’s that simple.”

The following statement was an addendum to PFOX’s press release of May 6, 2013 and is reprinted in its entirety: “ (PFOX) condemns the fraudulent hearing held by the New Jersey Senate Health, Human Services, and Senior Citizens Committee to pass a bill that will ban therapy for minors who experience unwanted same-sex attractions while allowing gay affirming therapy to be practiced. The bill, co-sponsored by Sen. Barbara Buono, will prohibit licensed mental health professionals from helping minors with unwanted same-sex attractions.

During the three-hour hearing, gay activists and other proponents of the bill testified to a parade of horribles. One such man, who self-identifies as a woman, testified that he was “tortured” in a youth camp setting as a teenager. (more…)

On March 18, 2013 gay activists testified against sexual orientation change effort (SOCE) therapy for minors, using anecdotal evidence and position statements from mental health organizations, to outlaw its use in New Jersey. Beginning of the article “Opponents of gay ‘conversion therapy’ bill envoke Jerry Sandusky’s name” on nj.com. “TRENTON — In a move that outraged gay rights advocates, opponents of a bill to outlaw ‘conversion therapy’ intended to turn gay children straight today sought to associate the measure with a convicted child molester. They called the bill (S2278) the ‘Jerry Sandusky Victimization Act.’”

“Gregory Quinlan, director of government affairs for socially conservative New Jersey Family First, said at a Trenton press conference today sexual feelings towards the same sex can develop as a result of molestation. ‘We’d be denying the child the discovery of why they’re having those feelings, which is why we’re calling this the ‘Jerry Sandusky Victimization Act,’’ Quinlan, who describes himself as a former homosexual, said.”

Excerpts from the article “How the ‘gay’ child-sex-abuse cover-up kills young men” on the World Net Daily website: … “In fact, an analysis of the groundbreaking 1983 book, ‘One Teenager in Ten: Writings by Gay And Lesbian Youth,’ finds 38 percent of these teens reporting personal ‘gay’ child sex abuse. The vulnerable youngsters were counseled that their abuse was their own fault, for they were really born that way.’”

… “The CDC authors [2001-2009 ‘Survey on Sexual Identity’] mislead the public by euphemizing ‘first sexual intercourse before age 13’ as a variation of ‘coming of age’ versus rape and statutory rape. The authors use the word ‘harassed’ only once, in reporting that mis-oriented youths were ‘verbally harassed.’ (p. 47).”

The following public statement by John Paulk is reprinted in its entirety from the Advocate’s website. The Advocate is a prominent gay media business: “For the better part of ten years, I was an advocate and spokesman for what’s known as the “ex-gay movement,” where we declared that sexual orientation could be changed through a close-knit relationship with God, intensive therapy and strong determination. At the time, I truly believed that it would happen. And while many things in my life did change as a Christian, my sexual orientation did not.

So in 2003, I left the public ministry and gave up my role as a spokesman for the “ex-gay movement.” I began a new journey. In the decade since, my beliefs have changed. Today, I do not consider myself “ex-gay” and I no longer support or promote the movement. (more…)

Excerpts from Doyle’s article “Pedophile Jerry Sandusky’s Dream of Californication” on the Christian Post website: … “[9th Circuit Court of Appeals Judge in San Francisco] Kozinsky went on to say: ‘We don’t have any compelling evidence’ that SOCE therapy should be banned. ‘Point me to the one piece of evidence we can call compelling saying that this causes harm.’”

“The truth is, there is no scientific evidence that SOCE causes harm or is ineffective for minors. While major mental health organizations have made this claim, they have no data to back it up. Instead, some have cited research that shows homosexual youth are more likely to experience poorer outcomes when rejected by their families.” (more…)

PFOX recently published answers to five questions related to the ex-gay movement. The questions answered were: 1. Why should schools present ex-gay information?; 2. What are some of the discriminatory actions against former homosexuals?; 3. Why do gays hate ex-gays so much?; 4. I’m happy being gay, so why should gays change their sexual orientation?; and 5. What about gay teens and suicide that I’ve heard about?

Following is the answer to the fourth question: “Change is only for those with unwanted same-sex attractions. What makes you happy may not make someone else happy because we are all individuals. Please respect other people’s decisions for their lives. (more…)

Following is the entire Liberty Counsel Press Release: San Francisco, CA – On Wednesday, April 17, Mat Staver, Founder and Chairman of Liberty Counsel, will present oral argument on behalf of children, their parents, and counselors at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit in San Francisco regarding the California ban on change therapy. SB 1172 bans any counseling under any circumstances to minors seeking to diminish or eliminate unwanted same-sex sexual attractions, behavior, or identity. On December 21, 2012, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals in Pickup v. Brown granted Liberty Counsel’s emergency motion to temporarily block the law from going into effect on January 1, 2013, as scheduled.
