Following is the entire Liberty Counsel Press Release: San Francisco, CA – On Wednesday, April 17, Mat Staver, Founder and Chairman of Liberty Counsel, will present oral argument on behalf of children, their parents, and counselors at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit in San Francisco regarding the California ban on change therapy. SB 1172 bans any counseling under any circumstances to minors seeking to diminish or eliminate unwanted same-sex sexual attractions, behavior, or identity. On December 21, 2012, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals in Pickup v. Brown granted Liberty Counsel’s emergency motion to temporarily block the law from going into effect on January 1, 2013, as scheduled. The argument this week will determine if that law will continue to be blocked. (more…)

Excerpt from the article “Sexual Orientation Therapy Ban: Where Is Tolerance?” by Christopher Doyle published on the Christian Post website: “Where is tolerance? Where is diversity? Where is equality? If you live in California, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Washington, or Massachusetts and have a child who experiences unwanted same-sex attraction (SSA), soon you may not find tolerance, diversity, or equality there. That’s because activists in these states are carefully working with sympathetic members of their state legislatures to take away your parental rights and your child’s ability to receive treatment for unwanted homosexual feelings.” (more…)

The new website is genderwholeness.com/lds. The website offers “an expansive section on how homosexuality seems to develop, including comments from well known experts on the topic of sexual orientation” and “descriptions of the therapeutic approach that is helping men resolve issues underlying their same-sex attractions, and thereby often diminish the attractions themselves.” Link to a Christian News Wire article on the website.

Excerpts from the PFOX letter: “As parents of gay children, we urge you to vote against Senate Bill 2278, erroneously titled, ‘Protects minors by prohibiting attempts to change sexual orientation.’ This proposed legislation, initiated by the gay lobby to ensure that children receive only homosexual-affirming therapy by banning heterosexual therapy, is an act of childhood endangerment and an unconstitutional attempt to deny parental rights in New Jersey and your district.” (more…)

Following are transcribed excerpts of Christopher Rosik, Ph.D. articulating NARTH’s perspectives. Rosik is the current president of the National Association for Research and Therapy of Homosexuality (NARTH):
“… My fellow panelists and I wish to publicly provide confirmation of one fact: that ‘sexual orientation’ is not immutable in all people and as a result some individuals can and do experience change in same-sex attractions and behavior. Those who disagree with us on this too often speak for us in ways that intentionally or unintentionally mischaracterize what we believe and how we practice.”
“So let me try to briefly to set the record straight.” (more…)

Excerpts from Christopher Doyle’s opinion piece “The Ex-Gay Problem: You Can Never Leave?” on the Christian Post website: “‘You Can Check-Out Anytime You Like, But You Can Never Leave.’ So says the Eagles’ song Hotel California. Ironically, this memorable phrase in that 1976 classic hit has lasting implications for all those wishing to leave the gay life. I am careful to say ‘life’ and not ‘lifestyle’ so not to offend any gay and lesbian reading this who may be quick to cast me as a homophobe or hate-monger.”
“The truth is no one simply chooses to have same-sex attractions (SSA). These feelings are the result of many factors, mostly environmental and familial, mixed-in with one genetic factor, a sensitive temperament. I make this claim not with a preponderance of scientific evidence, but with the clinical experience of my own practice as a psychotherapist over the last three years, plus an additional twenty years of observations from my colleagues at the International Healing Foundation.” (more…)

Excerpts from the article “Network blasted for demonizing ex-‘gays'” on World Net Daily: … “‘They are so afraid of people discovering their sexuality and realizing that no one is born a homosexual and learning that they can actually change if they want to,’ said Greg Quinlan about the issue raised by a recent episode of CBS’ ‘Criminal Minds.’ … ‘It is for this reason that they preach against us with such hate and venom, attacking us for exercising our right of self-determination,’ he said.”
“The heart of the issue is that if people who leave the homosexual lifestyle exist, it disproves the assumption that some are born homosexual and cannot change, the prevailing belief in the homosexual community.” (more…)

NARTH bulletin: “The United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit will hear the oral argument to reverse the district court’s order, find that SB 1172 is unconstitutional, and continue to enjoin the law on April 17, 2013 in San Francisco, California. Earlier this week Liberty Counsel acting on behalf of NARTH and the other Plaintiffs in this case filed the last of the briefs on this appeal.”
“This is a major step in the long legal process NARTH has undertaken to protect a client’s right to self-determination when seeking assistance for unwanted homosexual attraction from licensed mental health professional in the sate of California. (more…)

Excerpts from ex-gay Christopher Doyle’s opinion piece on the Christian Post website: … “The Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), which claims to be ‘a nonprofit civil rights organization dedicated to fighting hate and bigotry, and to seeking justice for the most vulnerable members of society,’ has been conducting a hate campaign for several years against former homosexual leaders, therapists, and persons with unwanted same-sex attraction (SSA).” (more…)

Statement from Christian Concern’s Christian Weekly News: “Di Hodgson of the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) has admitted that the organization’s opposition to therapy for those with unwanted same-sex attraction is not simply based on scientific evidence. She said on BBC Radio 4’s Sunday programme: ‘We have taken a view in a way which is regardless of the scientific findings. We still believe that it is unethical to seek to agree or to work towards changing someone’s sexual orientation through psychotherapy’ (you can listen to it here at 3m 4s in).”
“The disregard for science and emphasis on ethical opposition is worrying for both those who want the therapy and those who want to be able to provide it. It threatens to sideline people with Christian views on sexual ethics in this area.”
