The following PFOX news release “PFOX Observes ‘Day of Silence’ – Urges Students, Teachers to Distribute Ex-Gay Flyers” is reprinted in its entirety: Washington D.C. – Parents and Friends of Ex-Gays & Gays (PFOX) is urging students, parents, and educators to distribute ex-gay flyers on April 11 to their schools with Gay-Straight Alliance (GSA) or other gay-themed student clubs.

Friday, April 11, is the annual “day of silence” sponsored by the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network (GLSEN), when students and teacher members of homosexual clubs in public high schools and colleges across the country remain silent for the school day to bring attention to homosexuals.

“Homosexual activists and their supporters use this day to promote anti-heterosexual and ex-gay misinformation, said Regina Griggs, executive director of PFOX. “They cite false medical and mental health information that endangers our youth by downplaying or ignoring serious risks. Meanwhile, students who support homosexual behavior volunteer to remain silent. GLSEN includes “straight” in its title to refer only to heterosexuals who affirm homosexual behavior.”

“Since members of gay-affirming clubs agree to remain silent for the day, April 11 is the ideal time to distribute ex-gay information in the true spirit of tolerance as supporters seek respect and affirmation for ex-gays,” Griggs said. “PFOX is calling on students, parents and educators across our nation to distribute flyers promoting acceptance of the ex-gay community and the full facts about sexual orientation.”

“PFOX has distributed informative flyers in some of the largest school districts in the country,” Griggs said. “PFOX’s one-page flyer gives students more complete information on sexual orientation and urges tolerance for all. Equality exists when ex-gay organizations have equal access to students. Right now, homosexual groups have a virtual monopoly in schools to press their viewpoint on sexual orientation. Students deserve to hear the truth about ex-gays and the real hope for change for those who want it.”

“We encourage everyone to print these flyers and distribute them at their schools on April 11 and whenever a gay event is featured in order to promote equality, diversity and safety,” said Griggs. “Our children deserve no less.”

“Since many students are now encouraged to identify as ‘gay’ at an early age, the flyer explains that children do not have to prematurely label their entire future lives as ‘gay.’ All mainstream organizations admit that sexuality can be fluid and change over time – sexual preference is not fixed. The flyer also discourages bullying and name calling.”

Additional PFOX brochures and handouts about sexual orientation, gender identity disorder, bullying, tolerance, Spanish language flyers and more can be found at http://pfox.org/bookstore.html for downloading, printing and distributing to churches, schools, and workplaces.
Parents and Friends of Ex-Gays & Gays (PFOX) is the nation’s leading advocacy organization for love, support, and positive life change for the ex-gay community, their families, and individuals with unwanted same-sex attractions.
